CEDAR MOUNTAIN POTTERS
CEDAR MOUNTAIN POTTERS
These syrup jugs are a labor of love. I make only 150 to 200 each year. They are made in collaboration with my neighbors, the Morrill family, who process the syrup in small quantities each spring from their old farm. The jugs are made in the tradition of early American saltwares, which I greatly admire. I throw them without electricity on a kick wheel, and fire them in our salt kiln. I either write the text long hand, or stamp the logo on each jug using individual antique lead printer’s type. The jugs are stopped with food grade genuine cork and sealed with an easy-to-peel wax that is made just for the purpose. They hold approximately 16 oz. of grade A dark amber pure maple syrup.
There are four styles to choose from, shown below. It is the nature of the firing process to produce varying surfaces. Colors range from light tan to deep brown. Not all colors are available all the time. $48 each.
