L12 9 1/2" Document Bowl

$125.00

4 ¼”h x 9 ½”diam. Inspired by early American stonewares. Salt fired. My bowls are sturdy and hefty. I like to list the weight so that on-line shoppers are informed. This one is a little under 4 ½ lbs.

The text on these “Document Bowls” is taken from original Parsonsfield town documents that date from the late 1700’s to the mid 1800’s. Originally I made bowls that transcribed script from the front of these parchment documents. Now I find the back of these documents more interesting, with notations made in various orientations to the paper. I like the spontaneous style of writing and the abstracted image that results.

This one is dated Febry 23, 1811, and refers to a partial payment of $10 made on an unnamed debt. Names on the document are Benjamin Dalton and J Bradbury.
