L13 9" Document Bowl
L13 9" Document Bowl
4”h x 9”diam. Inspired by early American stonewares. Salt fired. My bowls are sturdy and hefty. I like to list the weight so that on-line shoppers are informed. This one is a little over 3 ½ lbs.
The text on these “Document Bowls” is taken from original Parsonsfield town documents that date from the late 1700’s to the mid 1800’s. Originally I made bowls that transcribed script from the front of these parchment documents. Now I find the back of these documents more interesting, with notations made in various orientations to the paper. I like the spontaneous style of writing and the abstracted image that results.
This one is dated March 26, 1811. $2 was paid to Benjamin Dalton by Allen Pease, whose signature is a little clumsy. Interesting.
